Partnerships that Pay

Council goal: Organizational Excellence

Red Top Rd Billboard

In the wake of the Great Resignation, Human Resources had to get creative to fill an unusually high number of job vacancies. HR worked with Marketing & Outreach to create posters, magnets for city vehicles, tv and billboard ads like the one pictured here on I-80 and Red Top Rd. The City's partnership with Outfront Advertising has multiple benefits. It honors Travis Air Force Base, increases our reach,
and adds over $156k annually to the City's general fund.

HR also asked recruiters to be more aggressive with cold calling and sourcing resumes from candidates that may not necessarily be looking for work. HR's efforts yielded 125 new hires in 2022.

 Created 2023 Supervisory Academy

The City conducted an employee engagement survey in order to determine improvements needed. Some of the survey results indicated that staff need their supervisors and managers to provide timely and constructive feedback. Human Resources answered this challenge by creating the Supervisory Academy. During this mandatory eight course training, supervisors and managers will be given the tools to communicate more effectively with their employees, set clear expectations, and assist with work that supports the achievement of Council goals. The Supervisory Academy started in January 2023.

Completed timely Labor Agreements

Council goal: Organizational Excellence

shaking hands

Negotiations are a collective bargaining process governed by California law, between labor partners (organizations that represent our employees for their wages, hours and working conditions) and management.  Both parties get together to renew Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA), most of which have a three to four-year term. The CBA's negotiated this round have three year terms.

Prior to 2019, the collective bargaining process was often difficult and extended beyond the term of the agreement. During this round,  labor partners were very collaborative and helpful in negotiating renewed CBA’s months prior to their expiration in June 30, 2022. This time savings translates in to cost savings for all parties involved.
