Meetings

Responsibilities

  • Initiates the preparation of general plans, specific plans, zoning amendments, programs, and legislation to implement the planning and zoning power of the City;

  • Advises the City Council of matters relating to planning;

  • Hears and decides on the applications for the following, as authorized by the zoning ordinance or referred by the Director of Community Development:

    • Use Permit

    • Variance

    • Minor Discretionary Approval

    • Minor Development Approval

    • Development Review

    • Tentative Subdivision Map

  • Serves as the advisory agency for the review and approval of zoning amendments, general plan or specific plan amendments, and development agreements; and

  • Acts as the board of appeals to hear and decide each appeal on a decision or determination made by planning staff, the zoning administrator, or Director of Community Development, in the administration and enforcement of the zoning regulations. Your Fairfield Planning Commission acts as an advisor to the City Council on matters concerning the physical development of the City. The Commission is aided in its work by the Community Development Department, which acts in an advisory capacity to the Commission. The Director of Community Development serves as secretary to the Commission. The Commission meets regularly on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber.

If you have any questions regarding matters other than those taken up by the Commission, you are encouraged to contact the Community Development Department at City Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
