Chief Dan Marshall became Fairfield's Chief of Police on November 7, 2022. Dan began his law enforcement career in 1998 as a Reserve Police Officer and Animal Control Officer in the City of Benicia. In November of 1999, he was hired by the Fairfield Police Department, where he has since had an incredible career, working in various assignments.

As an officer and corporal, Dan worked in Patrol, the Crime Suppression Unit, the Youth Services Unit and the Narcotics Unit, and held collateral assignments such as a Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Investigator, and Crisis Negotiator. After promoting to the rank of Sergeant, he worked in Patrol, the Crime Prevention Unit, and the Youth Services Division. He was a Team Leader on the Crisis Negotiations Team and implemented the Homeless Intervention Team.

Dan served as the department's Mental Health Liaison to the Solano County Health and Social Services. He has overseen the Peer Support Program, Homeless Intervention Team, and Crisis Intervention Team. He worked with Solano County Health and Social Services to implement the Mobile Crisis program and bring Crisis Intervention Training to Solano County.

Dan was promoted to Lieutenant in 2016 and served as a Patrol Watch Commander for the Central and East Public Service Areas and managed the Investigations Division. In 2021, he was promoted to captain and managed the Operations Bureau, which includes, Patrol, Investigations, Youth Services, Homeless Intervention Team, PAL, and the Traffic Unit.

Dan is a recognized leader throughout the Fairfield community. He has worked actively with various local organizations to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. Serving people is his passion and he focuses on changing our young people's lives. He was a founding member of the Fairfield Police Activities League and president of the Board of Directors. Dan has also served on the Board of Directors for the Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, represented the department with Faith Partners and Community, and served on the California Police Chiefs’ Association’s Officer Wellness Committee.

Dan holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University and a master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego. He graduated from the Los Angeles Police Department Leadership Academy and the California POST Executive Development Course.
