All assignments under the Special Enforcement Division are considered unique and fall outside the realm of normal patrol duties. Each requires a high degree of team camaraderie and discipline. All officers working in the Special Operations Division receive specialized training and develop a high level of proficiency and expertise for their assignment.

The Motor Team can often be found at many of our high traffic areas, enforcing those laws that most often result in injury collisions. We also have a dedicated DUI team, committed to keeping dangerous drivers off the streets by educating the public and enforcing impaired driving laws throughout our city.

In 2013, the City of Fairfield embarked on a campaign to address Quality of Life issues. As a part of this campaign, the Fairfield Police Department implemented the Homeless Intervention Team (HIT) to assist with one of the most complex and significant quality of life issues facing our city. The mission of the HIT is to balance proactive outreach with enforcement of the law, while connecting members of the homeless population with resources that may help them transition from homelessness. The team is comprised of four specially trained police officer, one community service officer and a police social services coordinator. The Youth Services Unit establishes and maintains a close partnership with school administrators and students of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified and Travis Unified School Districts. The Youth Services Unit has several programs designed to build trust with the youth of Fairfield while maintaining a safe, welcoming environment to learn. Our School Resource Officers can be found at the High Schools, Middles Schools and the Public Safety Academy.

In addition to our highly visible School Resource Officers, the Fairfield Police Department also offer several other unique opportunities to build relationships with our youth. 

The Juvenile Diversion team is designed to act as an early intervention for first-time youth offenders. The Juvenile Diversion Officer works with parents, schools and the courts to keep low level youth offenses out of the criminal court system. Our efforts have resulted in an over 80% success rate. We are also proud to have an active Police Explorer program. Police Explorers is designed for young men and women, 14-21 years of age, allowing them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to serve the people of Fairfield through discipline and commitment. Police Explorers can be seen helping with community service events, participating in ride-alongs and competing in Explorer Competitions.
